Chris Annetts

ragbag of contradictions

Chris Annetts, known artistically as "Ragbag of Contradictions", is a versatile musician whose eclectic repertoire eludes categorisation. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences from classical to pop, and including musical theatre luminaries such as Willy Russell and Schönberg and Boublil, Chris crafts melodic songs that range from the whimsical to the profound.

He lives in beautiful Kintyre on the west coast of Scotland, is a welcome fixture in the local music scene and fearlessly showcases his extensive collection of unique compositions at gigs and festivals. From satirical jabs at junk mail to poignant ballads and cabaret-style performances, his music offers entertaining and captivating journeys through life's absurdities and complexities.

Chris’ musical adventures began as a church chorister, where he received an early and comprehensive grounding in vocal technique and harmony that he continued to expand during his formal education. Initial professional endeavours in music theatre and arts education included   spells with Scottish Opera for Youth and the Macrobert Arts Outreach Team.  Over the following two decades Chris focused his creative energy on establishing Patchwork Theatre, an arts education company that specialised in youth music theatre. Throughout this time he won critical acclaim as a prolific writer and director of many original productions, addressing social issues and other youth-related topics with depth and creativity.

After facing a number of personal challenges that resulted in an emotional breakdown he returned to formal education and gained a BA in commercial music from the UWS. However, as his mental health remained unstable he sought peace and solitude in Kintyre and took time away from his artistic pursuits.  Eventually, Chris found renewed purpose and creative fulfilment through therapy and community involvement. During the pandemic he embraced various online platforms, where he honed his craft through songwriting workshops and collaborations.

With newfound enthusiasm, Chris is now focused on expanding his musical horizons. His debut solo comedy album, "Ragbag of Ridiculous", showcases his witty lyricism and infectious melodies and paves the way for further diverse projects. Set to release his latest reflective single, "Touch The Moon," in April 2024, Chris is poised to continue his musical journey, exploring new creative frontiers and perhaps revisiting past endeavours with a fresh perspective.
